Cease, to stop doing something；停止；終止。
The rain has ceased.雨停了。
Without cease，就是不停地，不斷地。
不知大家是否留意過英文新聞里經常出現這樣一個詞：cease-fire, an agreement to stop fighting for a period of time, especially so that a more permanent agreement can be made.其實就是停火的意思。
This proverb tells us that we should never give up our hope, because wonders will never cease.

13、Hitch your wagon to star. 把你的大車套在星星上。/人要志向遠大。
這句話意味著人要有遠大理想，要立志超脫一切世俗事物。
Hitch, to fasten something,在這里解釋為被鉤住；被栓住；被套住。Hitch...to...就是把...繫上，栓上。這個詞還有多種解釋：
(1)a problem that delays something for a short time.故障；障礙。比如說：討論順利地結束了。我們可以這樣表達：The discussion passed off without a hitch.
(2)informal to ask for a free ride from the drivers of passing cars by putting your hat out with your thumb raised.求得免費搭車。免費搭車者我們就說：hitchhiker.
Wagon, a strong vehicle with four wheels, used for carrying heavy loads and usually pulled by horse; a large open container pulled by a train, used for carrying goods. (in BrE),是指四輪馬車；在英式英語中指(鐵路)貨車。
大家在使用這個諺語的時候需要特別注意一下，雖然這句話含有人要志向遠大的意思，但是也有可能是貶義，即：好高騖遠。

conscience means the awareness of a moral or ethical aspect to one''s conct together with the urge to prefer right over wrong,良心就是對鞭策人行善而非作惡的本能行為在倫理或道德上的意識。例如：Let your conscience be your guide.讓你的良心指引你。His conscience troubled him after he took the money.他拿了錢以後，他的良心使他不安。我們常說的憑良心就是according to one''s conscience,問心無愧是have a clear [good] conscience.
關於這個詞，有如下習慣用語：

另外在口語中，我們可以說My conscience！這表示啊呀！噯！好傢伙！(表示驚奇，遺憾等)的意思。
這句格言，其實說的就是一種堅韌不屈的性格。

15、Dying is as natural as living.生死是自然法則。/生死有命，富貴在天。
Dying,在這里指死亡。Be dying for/to, to have a real wish for/to (informal),(非正式)恨不得馬上；巴不得立刻；非常想：I'm dying for a cigarette.我恨不得馬上有支煙抽。
As natural as,和...一樣普通，一樣正常。As...as表示和...一樣，中間必須是形容詞的原形。比如：as big as和...一樣大; as fast as和...一樣快。
Living,活著；有生命的。這個詞還可以解釋為現存的；現行的；在使用著的。A living language活語言。
這句諺語告訴我們生與死都是自然規律的一部分。死亡是不可避免的，也是不可怕的。

knowledge:
1. understanding了解，理解例如：A baby has no knowledge of good and evil.小孩兒不解善惡。
2. all that a person knows familiarity gained by experience個人的知識，見聞例如：I have only a limited knowledge of computers.我的計算機知識是很有限的。
3. everything that is known, organized body of information學問，學識，知識例如：all branches of knowledge各門學問
knowledge常用的搭配如下：

It's pointless trying to keep your friendship secret----it's common knowledge already.你們無所謂將友情保留---其實已盡人皆知了。
Come to somebody's knowledge被某人熟悉
It has come to our knowledge that you have been cheating the company.我們了解你一直欺騙公司。
這句格言，實際是告訴我們做事要實干，僅僅紙上談兵是不夠的。

17、A man without distant care must have near sorrow. 人無遠慮必有近憂。
Distant-the amount of space between two places or things，遠的，悠遠的。舉例：A distant relative遠房親戚；distant control遙控；long distance長途電話。
Care，通常是照顧；管理；或是小心的意思。比如：Give more care to your spelling.多注意你的拼寫。在這里care是指憂慮；煩惱；掛念。我們來看一些例子：be free from all care無憂無慮/Care had aged him.憂慮使他顯得蒼老了。
Sorrow-a feeling of great sadness, usually because someone has died or because something terrible has happened to you，悲傷，悲哀。Convert sorrows into strength 化悲痛為力量。
社會競爭日益激烈，人們的壓力也越來越大，既有遠慮又有近憂的人已不在少數了。還是衷心希望所有的人都能放鬆心態，舒適地生活。

18、Self-distrust is the cause of most of our failures.
我們絕大多數的失敗都是因為缺乏自信的緣故。
Distrust - a feeling that you cannot trust someone，不信任，懷疑。Have a distrust of somebody / something，對某人(某事)懷疑。Self-distrust，就是缺乏自信的意思。與之想反的是，self-confidence 充滿自信。由self-結構組成的片語還有很多，比如：self-dramatizing 自吹自擂的；self-ecated 自學的；self-financing 自籌經費；self-glorifying 自命不凡的；等等。
Cause，原因。the cause of，是導致...的原因。
Failure，是動詞fail的名詞形式，解釋為失敗。Failure is the mother of success.失敗是成功之母。也可以解釋為失敗的人；失敗的嘗試：He is a failure as an artist.他是個失敗的藝術家。Fail表示失敗或不能；忘記。Don't fail to ring me up.不要忘記給我打電話。
這個諺語就告訴我們在做任何一件事情的時候我們都要充滿自信。

19、Some people pretend to despise the things they cannot have. ---- Aesop
吃不到葡萄的人說葡萄酸。----伊索
pretend means make pretensions,表示假裝，矯作的意思。
這里，我們來看一下下列幾個詞：pretend、feign、assume、affect ,都含"假裝"的意思。
pretend指"感覺到某事,而在言行上裝出是真的",如: pretend not to hear 假裝沒聽見。
feign指"精心裝有或裝作",如:feign deafness 裝聾。
assume指"裝出有某種感情的樣子,以掩飾其真正的感情",如:
She assumed a look of sorrow. 她假裝著悲傷的樣子。
affect指"為達到某種效果而假裝有某種特徵或情感",如:affect a British accent裝英國腔。

20、The secret of success is constancy of purpose. 成功之秘訣乃為目標之有恆。
Secret - something kept hidden or known about by only a few people，秘密；機密。The secret of health 養身秘訣；make no secret of something 對某事毫不掩飾。
Constancy - the quality of staying the same even though other things change，堅定；堅貞；經久不變。Constancy of purpose目標堅定。
Purpose-the thing that an event, process, or activity is supposed to achieve, or the job that something is supposed to do，意圖；目的。What is his purpose in coming?他來的意圖是什麼？
這個諺語告訴我們確立目標，持之以恆就能成功地將事情完成。

21、Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.
知識是寶庫，而實踐是開啟這一寶庫的鑰匙。
這句話也就是我們平常一直在說的：理論知識的掌握必須建立在實踐的基礎之上。如果沒有實踐經驗，掌握的知識是比較抽象的。Treasure,財富，珍寶的意思。這個詞還有另外一種形式treasury，可以解釋為國庫，金庫，也有寶庫的意思。那麼我們平時一直在說的國庫券的英語應該怎麼表達呢？短期國庫券：treasury bill;中期國庫券：treasury note。既然解釋為寶庫，那麼就說明裡面的東西都是非常經典的，非常珍貴的，也就可以讓我們想到另外一個詞集錦的表達方式，也是這個treasury。比如說中國詩歌集錦就是a treasury of Chinese poetry。

22、A Jack of all trades is master of none.
樣樣皆通，樣樣稀鬆。/通百藝即無一長。
這里的Jack不是我們平時所指的人名，在這里是泛指無特長技術的人。我想大家都聽到過這樣一句話：All work and no play makes Jack a ll boy.同樣這里的Jack也是泛指。
Trade在這里的意思是-a particular job, especially one needing special skill with your hands.手藝。
這句話的意思其實很簡單，就是我們現在比較流行的一個詞「三腳貓」啦。看來光會做「三腳貓」還是遠遠不夠的，一定要有自己的某些特長。
